I don’t watch much TV, but caught 20 minutes of Flash Forward the other day. In Flash Forward, the world stopped for a few minutes and everyone was able to see what they would be doing in 6 months time. For some, there was no flash forward, meaning that within that time they would die. Some liked what they saw, others not so and set about changing their futures.
This topic raises a lot of questions. What action would you take today if you knew what you would be doing in 6 months time? How would you live differently to try and change the outcome of what you saw, if you had not progressed to where you wanted to be? Or would you just accept your fate and be the best you can be on the journey to that point?
Knowing their fate, many of the characters in Flash Forward change their behaviour and act according to what their flash forward said they would be doing. Some search for answers as to how they end up in such a mess in 6 months. Others know their time is limited and so take more risks, figuring they have nothing to lose. It is interesting to note that they only started to try and live better or aim for a better outcome once they new their future. It became a motivating factor because instead of it being OK that a goal was not achieved in a time frame, it became urgent as time might have been running out. Check out a quick preview of the series.
We all have hopes and dreams but tend to roll our goals over to the next month or next year as we don’t want it bad enough. Eventually we run out of time. It happens slowly, which is the problem, time sneaks up on us and opportunities are missed. Why wait to retirement to travel when your body is not as agile as it once was. Do it now whilst you can experience more and each year celebrate with a another great experience.
How would you live differently today if you knew you would win tattslotto, lose your job, become sick or even die in 6 months time? You would probably make drastic changes to how you lived, you would most likely be proactive and to become healthier to prevent any sickness. It is an interesting concept and a reason it is important to live like you want to live now and not wait for circumstances to change.
So what is your flash forward? Where would you like to be in 6 months times in a perfect world? What would you have achieved? What changes would you make for a better life? The thing is that we don’t often have flash forwards and know where we will be and therefore just cruise through life. It now only 2 months until 2010, no doubt many goals and promises were made on what you would achieve in 2009 that have not yet come to fruition. You have a choice, you can take the approach that you are out of time or the approach life with the attitude that you have 2 months to mark those goals off your list.
