4 – Our TGIF Mindset

TGIF, I bet you have heard that a million times. Earlier in the week I talked about why we should not wait for a date or a deadline before we start to enjoy life. Why wait when you can do this now? We often have different moods or mindsets depending on the day of the week and the funny thing is that we work in seven day cycles. It is ridiculous that the very day of the week can dictate our mood. We all look forward to Fridays, not because it is Friday, but because Saturday is the following day and we can relax. Do you know where the term TGIF comes from? It is the title of a 1978 movie and refers to the anticipation of relaxing and partying over the weekend! There are now even restaurants called TGIF.

Check out this classic Aussie rock song. No doubt you have heard it many times but listen to the lyrics and feel free to turn it up and have a little dance at your desk just enough for the boss to hear you. It is Friday after all ;-)

This was a hit back in 1966, proving that TGIF is far from a new concept. Notice how Stevie Wright the lead singer of the Easybeats describes how people feel every day of the week. Monday we feel bad and everyone seems to nag, to the buildup of the weekend. It can’t be much fun living five days out of seven waiting for the weekend but it is not uncommon. I always make sure that I love what I do, since leaving my job as an accountant every ‘job’ I have done has been a position that I created for myself. I simply applied my passions and skills to industries I wanted to gain experience in.

Making The Most Of Every Day

The different mindset with this is amazing. I often forget what day of the week it is as I don’t have favourites. Sure some days I play basketball, other I write and others I relax more, whilst each experience is different I don’t have to cram my ‘fun’ experiences into two days a week. I can enjoy each day for what it brings.

A Short Story…

I remember seeing a friend on a Monday earlier this year and asking him what day of the week it was. ‘Monday’ came the response and I replied with a genuinely excited ‘I have so much to do this week, this is going to be an awesome week, I’m excited!’ My friend gave my a look of disbelief and said ‘I have so much to do this week, this week is going to suck, I can’t wait to Friday…’ Interesting isn’t it? Same response, different attitude. Remember, You can Choose Your Own Success, how you react is up to you…

Have a great weekend and week ahead, I know I will!
