Standing Tall: On Confidence, Teamwork & Leadership

Tom Harley considers himself a lucky man, having captained the Geelong Football Club to 2 premierships in 3 years. Never the club’s top player, he set personal goals, worked hard and pushed himself to achieve them. On his way to becoming the greatest leader he could be, Tom discovered what qualities he values most and how to bring out the best in others. Respect, courage, risk, pride, gaining confidence, finding your passion, leading under pressure, and coping with failure.

Uusing his own experiences, Tom shares his thoughts on what makes both great leaders and followers. He shows what it takes to stand tall, on and off the field.

‘How fortunate are we to have a diary, a compendium, a bible, if you like, of the things that matter to Tom and, in the end, matter to us all.’ Paul Sheahan, former headmaster, Melbourne Grammar

What I like about this book is that it is very different from the other football books in the market. Most are about a players career and goes through their life as an athlete. Tom’s book is more about values and being a leader. It is written in a very similar style to my own book and I admire that Tom wrote the book himself as to challenge his skills in another area.

A very easy read and full of great lessons that are either great reminders for how we look at life or a way to challenge your current thinking.
