7 Habits Of Highly Effective People

7habitsThe 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change was a groundbreaker when it was first published in 1990, and it continues to be a business bestseller with more than 10 million copies sold. Stephen Covey, an internationally respected leadership authority, realizes that true success encompasses a balance of personal and professional effectiveness, so this book is a manual for performing better in both arenas. His anecdotes are as frequently from family situations as from business challenges.

Before you can adopt the seven habits, you’ll need to accomplish what Covey calls a “paradigm shift”–a change in perception and interpretation of how the world works. Covey takes you through this change, which affects how you perceive and act regarding productivity, time management, positive thinking, developing your “proactive muscles” (acting with initiative rather than reacting), and much more.

This isn’t a quick-tips-start-tomorrow kind of book. The concepts are sometimes intricate, and you’ll want to study this book, not skim it. When you finish, you’ll probably have Post-it notes or hand-written annotations in every chapter, and you’ll feel like you’ve taken a powerful seminar by Covey. –Joan Price

There is a reason this book has sold more than 15 million copies, it is good, very good! Anyone in business should have read this or needs to. Anyone wanting to use their time better needs to find the time to read this.

There are many models presented in this book but I want to focus on Win Win or No Deal. To me this is the key any transaction in life, if one party has to lose so the other can win it is just not worth it. Not that I ever wanted others to lose but this book gave me a perspective on how this happens everyday in many ways. I could approach life with how can I get ahead no matter what? Or take the Win Win approach of how can I help others get ahead which will also benefit me?

My belief is that if you try and win at others expense, eventually it will result in lose lose. You might win once but the people you burn will tell the world and slow your progress so eventually no one wins. It is also not smart to lose so others can win. Rarely will they truly appreciate the sacrifices you make for them leaving you bitter and them not learning the lessons that maybe they need.

I would love to hear peoples thoughts on Win Win or any other chapter in the 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People
