Srully Blotnick – Getting Rich Your Own Way

Getting Rich Your Own Way

Getting RichThis book demonstrates the importance of “loving what you do” in order to become wealthy. Sound simple–not really. Blotnick tracks the success of over 1000 people who became successful as a side result of their work (which they loved). All those who wanted to become wealthy and then do the work that they loved were “unsuccessful” at becoming financially independent. This is an excellent starter for anyone in business (or not) who wants to become wealthy and enjoy the process.

I first heard about this book through Brendan Nichols and was intrigued by the findings. Not a lot can be found on the internet in the form of reviews so here a few of my thoughts and I hope others will build on this.

This book is a study of people and their quests to be rich over a 20 year period. It is fascinating to see the behaviours of those that succeeded and those that didn’t. Interestingly, those who invested and tried to get rich were far less successful than those who did what they loved and got rich in the process. I think it makes a great point about the now and enjoying what you do and not just chasing the dollar.

Many people became millionaires by accident either by buying a property to conduct their business and the property increased in value or they were so passionate about what they did that their business thrived and they often were offered a large sum of money for their business.

It also covers how those that lacked ethics and had an overly competitive nature in climbing the corporate ladder only got so far before being found out.

Overall a fascinating look at how different people lives turned out depending on their risk profiles and willingness to do what that love first.
